Markus Schmidt, Director of the International Law Seminar, has been senior legal officer for the UN Office at Geneva since early 2010.  Until December 2009, he was senior human rights officer in the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).  He served as secretary of the Human Rights Committee from 2001 to 2005 and was team leader of the Petitions Unit of OHCHR from 2002 to 2009.

Vittorio Mainetti, Coordinator of the International Law Seminar since 2006, he earned a PhD in Public International Law from the Graduate Institute of International and development Studies, Geneva and the University of Milan. He works as an Adjoint scientifique at the University of Geneva. Since 2010, he is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Saint-Etienne (France). Specializing in public international law, Dr. Mainetti is particularly interested in the history of international law, the law of international organizations, and the law of international cultural relations and cultural heritage protection. His doctoral dissertation, entitled “L'intérêt culturel  internationalement protégé. Contribution à l'étude du droit international de la culture", was devoted to the study of Culture Heritage Law. He is the author of several scientific publications on various international law issues.
